Casa Navàs, owned by MaserGrup, has been the subject of an extensive report published in Indicador de Economía, which analyzes in depth the reconstruction process of the tower that crowned the modernist building and was destroyed in 1938 during the Civil War. The article highlights the historical rigor, specialized craftsmanship, and technical innovation that define this heritage intervention, considered one of the most significant currently taking place in the city of Reus.
The report recalls that Casa Navàs is one of the most prominent works of Catalan modernism, designed by Lluís Domènech i Montaner and conceived as a building closely connected to its urban environment. In this context, the tower was not a secondary decorative element, but an essential piece to understand the architectural composition of the ensemble and its symbolic presence in Plaça del Mercadal.
The disappearance of this element occurred on March 26, 1938, as a result of the bombings that affected the center of Reus during the Civil War. This event deeply marked the building’s history and explains the current commitment to restoring the tower with the utmost accuracy, avoiding free interpretations and relying on original documentation, historical photographs, and preserved remains.
According to the article, the decision to rebuild it is based on historical, compositional, and documentary criteria. The project is not intended as a recreation, but as an architectural restitution based on precise information that allows the faithful reproduction of geometry, materials, and original details.
From a technical perspective, the intervention combines artisanal techniques with contemporary structural solutions. The new structure incorporates an interior stainless-steel framework that ensures stability and compliance with current regulations, while the exterior elements faithfully reproduce the original appearance thanks to the work of stonemasons, blacksmiths, glaziers, and other specialized artisans.
As the report emphasizes, the objective of the intervention is not to erase history, but to understand it and recover an essential part of the architectural language of Casa Navàs. The project is scheduled to be completed in time for the Sant Pere festival in Reus in 2026, when the building will finally regain its original silhouette.
The publication of this report in Indicador de Economía confirms the interest this project is generating both culturally and from an economic and heritage perspective, reinforcing the role of Casa Navàs as one of the most important architectural landmarks in the region.
