On 12 November, Casa Navàs will officially unveil its reconstructed tower during a public celebration in Plaça del Mercadal. Under the title The Return of a Symbol: Reus Reaches the Sky Again, the event will take place from 8:00 pm to 9:30 pm with the support of the Tarragona Provincial Council and Reus City Council.
The restoration of this architectural landmark, which was destroyed during the Spanish Civil War bombings in 1938, marks another important milestone in MaserGrup’s commitment to preserving and restoring Casa Navàs. As the owner of this iconic Modernist building, MaserGrup has promoted a project aimed at returning the house to its original appearance while respecting its historical and architectural authenticity.
The reconstruction of the tower has involved an investment of approximately €1 million. It has been a particularly complex project due to both its technical challenges and the symbolic importance of the structure for the city of Reus.
During the press conference held at Casa Navàs, Guillermo Mena, representative of MaserGrup, explained that around ten more years of work will be needed to fully restore the building to the appearance it had at the beginning of the 20th century. This forms part of a long-term restoration strategy that combines heritage preservation, structural safety and preventive conservation.
A Faithful Reconstruction Adapted to Today’s Standards
The architectural project was designed by Tous Arquitectes, while the construction work has been carried out by Constècnia. One of the greatest challenges was recreating the tower as faithfully as possible while ensuring compliance with current building and safety regulations.
To achieve this, the reconstruction incorporates an internal stainless-steel structure with a six-arm base to provide additional strength. Special attention has also been given to the use of Vinaixa stone, the original material, known for its soft and sandy characteristics.
Beyond the reconstruction of the tower, Casa Navàs has strengthened its preventive conservation programme throughout 2026. The work carried out includes repairing water leaks, installing a new indoor air renewal system, inspecting and cleaning the stained-glass windows, and undertaking conservation work on the building’s marquetry.
In the coming weeks, an inventory and inspection of all wooden elements will also begin to prevent potential damage caused by termites and woodworm.
