On June 9, Reus unveiled a new sculpture dedicated to Antoni Gaudí, an initiative that forms part of the Gaudí Year commemorative programme and helps strengthen the city’s connection with one of the most universal figures in its history. At MaserGrup, we are proud to have been part of this project, which highlights the cultural, historical and identity heritage of Reus.

The new sculpture, located in Fossar Vell at the foot of the bell tower of the Prioral Church of Sant Pere, pays tribute to Antoni Gaudí in one of the most significant places of his life and legacy. The inauguration ceremony was attended by institutional representatives, members of the Amics de Gaudí de Reus Association and the professionals who made the project possible.

Promoted by the Amics de Gaudí de Reus Association and created by sculptor Joan Serramià, the artwork depicts Gaudí working as an architect while modelling the façade of the Sanctuary of Misericòrdia in plaster. The sculpture evokes the way architects worked at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century, bringing the figure of the renowned architect closer to both residents and visitors.

The artwork consists of a 1.9-metre-high bronze figure and a stone base inspired by the clouds featured on the Nativity Façade of the Sagrada Família. The ensemble includes several symbolic elements that help explain Gaudí’s personality, such as his characteristic hat, a rosary and hazelnuts, the latter closely linked to the local territory and the identity of Reus.

The chosen location adds even greater significance to the project. Gaudí was baptised at the Prioral Church of Sant Pere, and the stairways of its bell tower inspired some of the architectural solutions he would later apply to the Sagrada Família. This connection makes the site a particularly emblematic place within Gaudí’s legacy.

For MaserGrup, taking part in initiatives such as this reflects our commitment to actively contributing to the cultural and social development of the region. This collaboration joins other projects promoted during the Gaudí Year, including participation in the mural dedicated to Antoni Gaudí that was recently unveiled next to Reus Central Market.

These initiatives help strengthen Reus’ position as a Gaudí city and project its heritage beyond its borders. At the same time, they create new opportunities for cultural outreach and for connecting citizens with their history.

At MaserGrup, we will continue supporting projects that promote culture, preserve heritage and create value for the territory. Our connection with Reus, its traditions and its future development is part of the DNA of our business group and the companies that form it.
